Welcome to the Studio
For many centuries, music has been considered by many to be an important subject of study. Whether your approach is practical or scientific, I believe that a skill that can comfort the heart is very valuable. It is my belief that playing piano is good not only for gaining musical knowledge, but also for strengthening coordination between the hands, eyes, and feet. From my experience, piano playing will undoubtedly help students be able to understand and appreciate music for the rest of their lives. Research has demonstrated that students who play piano are enriched in other areas, such as math and literature, because playing an instrument will help to develop key centers in the brain.I like to have students play pieces from different time periods, rather than just one or two. This way, they learn the different styles within the historical contexts as early as possible and better understand the ideas within music.
My students are able to gain a richer experience and understanding of diverse approaches to piano pieces, evolved by brilliant composers throughout many centuries. It has always been my vision to share the love of music with students and to help them become well-rounded pianists. An important tool to help cultivate piano students in all areas is the annual CM exam, which tests students in different fields, such as repertoire, technique, sight reading, music theory, and ear training. The Certificate of Merit Exam (CM) is a statewide program that has standardized a curriculum for musical excellence since 1933. I have served as President of the Music Teachers' Association of California Hacienda Heights branch, CM Chair, and recording secretary over the past years.
